In recent years, Korean BL (Boys’ Love) TV dramas have experienced a rise in popularity. This phenomenon has changed the way we look at Korean dramas, in general. With platforms like Netflix, Viki, iQIYI, and LINE TV making these dramas accessible to international audiences, fans globally can now enjoy their favourite BL series with subtitles in multiple languages.
Most of these dramas depict themes of love, acceptance, and identity beautifully. Moreover, by showing LGBTQ+ characters in a positive light and exploring their experiences with sensitivity and empathy, Korean BL dramas are bringing something new to the table.
With BL dramas becoming increasingly accepted, more K-pop idols are finding themselves involved in such productions, and that includes OMEGA X’s member Hangyeom. The young artist recently stepped into acting with his debut role in the new Korean drama adaptation of the popular BL webtoon, Jazz for Two, which is now available on iQIYI. Originally topping the BL webtoon chart on Lezhin Comics in 2017, the webtoon’s narrative depicts the challenges faced by four high school students enrolled in an art school. While faced with the pressure, they began a journey of self-discovery and growth. Hangyeom takes on the role of Suh Do-yoon, a cheerful drummer at Wooyeon Arts School hiding a long-time secret crush.
Expressing his thoughts on his acting debut, Hangyeom said, “I was initially nervous about diving into acting for the first time. However, with the unwavering support and guidance from Director Song Su-lim, the dedicated staff, and my talented co-stars, I approached filming with newfound confidence and joy. I’m excited for audiences to witness a different side of me in Jazz for Two, and I hope they shower the drama with love and support.”
Directed by Song Su-lim, known for directing the BL drama A Shoulder to Cry On, in which OMEGA X contributed to composing and singing three original soundtracks, Jazz for Two will catch your attention with its interesting narrative. In addition, Jaehan from OMEGA X has contributed to the making and singing of the original soundtrack. Jazz for Two premiered in March 2024, offering eight 30-minute episodes available in several countries, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.
