Crunchyroll, the premier destination for anime fans worldwide, has recently unveiled exciting news at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil: the ninth annual Crunchyroll Anime Awards will take place in Tokyo, Japan, on May 25, 2025.
In a first for the awards, Brazilian drag queen, musician, and anime enthusiast Pabllo Vittar will present the event. Additional hosts and musical acts are expected to be announced soon. The fabulous voice actress Sally Amaki and beloved entertainer Jon Kabira will reprise their roles as co-hosts. At the same time, Sony Group Corporation Chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida will once again deliver opening remarks.

This year, the awards evolved further with a revised eligibility window and new categories, reflecting anime’s increasing global influence. Moving the ceremony from March to May allows for an expanded eligibility period – from October 1, 2023, to December 30, 2024 – covering five anime seasons. Future awards will align nominees to a calendar year, running from January 1 to December 30.

The 2025 event will feature 32 categories, ranging from new additions like Best Isekai and Best Hindi Voice Artist to popular categories such as Best Opening Sequence and Best Main Character. The nominees, selected by a panel of global experts, tastemakers, and influencers, will be unveiled on April 3, 2025, when fan voting begins.
As the leading annual program recognising excellence in Japanese animation, the Crunchyroll Anime Awards highlight the creators, musicians, and performers driving the medium’s international acclaim. This year’s ceremony will take place at the Grand Prince Hotel Shin Takanawa in Tokyo, supported by Sony Music Solutions Inc. and Dempsey Productions.
