In a rare and radiant cross-cultural collaboration, (LOVE SONG) brings together the creative forces of Japan and Thailand to tell a story of love. Directed by Champ Weerachit Thongjila, best known for the global BL romantic comedy series 2gether, the film is the acclaimed Thai filmmaker’s first project in Japanese feature cinema.
At the centre of (LOVE SONG) is the poignant reunion of two former lovers. Win Morisaki plays Souta Hiroki, a serious, soft-spoken researcher transferred to Bangkok. Koji Mukai of Snow Man takes on the role of Kai Sugiura, a free-spirited photographer and musician, and Souta’s first love. The story delicately unspools their reencounter, shaped by years of silence and a melody neither of them ever forgot.
The film also includes a strong international ensemble, including celebrated Japanese actors Mitsuhiro Oikawa, Kyoko Saito, and Mariko Tsutsui, and rising Thai stars Mean Phiravich, First Chalongrat, and Music Praewa.
And then there’s the music — Gravity, the film’s understated theme song by Japanese trio Omoinotake, released via Sony Music Labels. The song brings up the film’s bittersweet message of unspoken love and that special force that brings people back together, even after time and heartbreak.
“In a lifetime, we meet about 30,000 people,” Omoinotake shared after previewing the film. “To encounter the one person we can call ‘destiny’ – that’s something far more precious than a miracle.
They continued: “Even if we love, drift apart, hurt each other, and separate, we’re drawn together by an irresistible force. We wrote ‘Gravity’ to express the powerful pull of love that transcends borders – between Japan and Thailand, between Souta and Kai. This is a very special love song for us.”
That message was not lost on the cast. Win Morisaki spoke passionately about the song’s significance:
The title Gravity means to be drawn toward one another, and I feel it beautifully expresses the destined connection between the two characters. It’s a theme song filled with both sorrow and hope, capturing their intertwined fates.
For Koji Mukai, the song holds a personal first:
This is the first time one of my projects has had a theme song, so I was really happy. After watching the film, the song felt like it gently wrapped around the entire story. I think it’s the perfect song to listen to on the way home.
Director Champ Weerachit was instantly captivated by the music’s power to elevate the story:
The moment I heard Gravity, I was instantly drawn into its world. Even after just one listen, the beautiful melody lingered in my ears and resonated throughout my body. This song perfectly mirrors the emotions of the characters and deepens the love story in a truly moving way. It’s an essential part of the film, and with its addition, the world of love portrayed in the story feels complete.
More than just a romantic film, (LOVE SONG) is a delicately composed duet between two cultures, two hearts, and two artistic visions. Through Souta and Kai’s longing, and a melody that refuses to fade, the film reminds us to believe in love’s ability to endure, even when words fall short, and even when we’ve let go. Because sometimes, love isn’t just something we fall into. It’s something we return to – again and again – pulled by something like Gravity.
