TWINS is a well-known Cantopop duo from Hong Kong, created by Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) in 2001. The group features Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung, two part-time models turned singers who quickly rose to fame across Asia. From their early days, TWINS captured the hearts of young teens with their catchy, upbeat music, but by 2004, they began experimenting with more diverse musical styles, attracting a broader audience. Over the years, they’ve established themselves as a household name not just in Hong Kong, but across mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and beyond, including countries such as the U.S., Canada, Australia, and the Philippines.
Their debut in 2001 marked the start of a great career that would see them release twelve Cantonese studio albums, and four Mandarin albums, along with several extended plays, compilations, and live albums. Many of their singles quickly climbed to the top of the charts, making them one of the most successful Cantopop acts of their time. From their debut EP Twins to chart-topping albums like Magic and Our Souvenir, they became known for their down-to-earth melodies and heart-warming performances. By 2003, they had collected 72 awards; their popularity extended beyond music, with both members starring in films like The Twins Effect, which featured a hit collaboration with Jackie Chan.
After a setback in 2008, TWINS returned to the music scene in 2010, much to the delight of their fans. Their reunion concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum was a massive success, making their comeback truly special. TWINS continued to release new music, including their 2011 Mandarin album 3650, a celebration of their 10th anniversary, and their 2012 Cantonese album 2 Be Free. The group’s success didn’t diminish with time, as both members also pursued thriving solo careers, releasing albums and starring in films, while continuing to come together for major performances.
In addition to their music, TWINS went on tours that spanned Asia and North America, performing in cities like Toronto, San Francisco, and Atlantic City, making their mark internationally. Despite challenges over the years, TWINS remains one of Cantopop’s most beloved and enduring acts. From their early days of lighthearted pop to their more mature, diverse sound, TWINS’ legacy is cemented in Cantopop history.
