The wait is over! HANA, the seven-member girl group formed through the wildly popular audition show No No Girls, officially makes their major-label debut today with the superb single ROSE. A swagger-filled track that depicts themes of survival and self-love leads the way into a fresh, fearless wave of J-pop.
ROSE doesn’t just introduce HANA, it announces them with a bang. Each member gets their moment to shine, delivering sharp vocals and attitude-driven charisma, while the group’s synergy shows that their power multiplies when they move together. This is girl-group energy on a whole new level. The track was written by none other than Japanese hip-hop star CHANMINA, who also co-produced the No No Girls audition project with cutting-edge label BMSG. Designed to discover real talent without industry stereotypes, the show sparked massive buzz by welcoming over 7,000 applicants from Japan, Korea, the U.S., and beyond. Now, the world gets to meet the final seven who turned “No” into a resounding “Yes.”

At the heart of the song, the narrator likens herself to a rose, beautiful yet covered in thorns, probably symbolising perseverance, pain, and self-protection in a harsh world. The song opens with an air of confidence and quiet defiance, revealing a protagonist who keeps her cards close and her emotions guarded. Lyrics like “I’m looking sweet but I’m all dynamite” and “I’m dangerous” challenge the idea of innocence, revealing a complex persona that’s both enticing and formidable. In both English and Japanese, the song mixes strong rhythms with great melodies and impressive vocals.
Vocally, the members of HANA truly shine. Their distinct tones and textured voices complement each other beautifully, and the thoughtful line distribution shows each member’s strengths. Together, they create a rich harmony that adds to the song’s already vivid imagery. Without a doubt, HANA has made a very strong debut, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
