B.A.P member ZELO has returned with his new digital single, “ELA”, a vibrant Latin pop-inspired song that combines dance beats with a surprisingly emotional story.
With tropical percussion, electric guitar and a catchy hook, “ELA” is the kind of song made for summer. It draws on the global pop hits of the 2010s, but ZELO adds his own style with those irresistible Latin rhythms.
Although the song is made for the dance floor, there’s more beneath the surface. “ELA” explores the bittersweet emotions left behind after a relationship ends, focusing on the memories and feelings that don’t disappear as easily as the person does.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, ZELO said he wanted to tell a story that many people could relate to, reminding listeners that even after saying goodbye, some connections continue to stay with us.
“ELA” was created to express the emotions that linger after a relationship seems to be over but never truly feels finished. I wanted to capture the complicated feelings that many people experience at some point in their lives, and tell a story that allows listeners to reflect on their own personal experiences.
The lyrics reflect the struggle of moving on when someone is still on your mind.
“This song holds a mix of longing, lingering attachment, confusion, excitement and anxiety. It honestly portrays the feeling of being unable to let go of someone or a relationship that continues to occupy your mind, as well as the emotional uncertainty that feels like an endless cycle of mixed signals.”
“ELA” mixes laid-back rhythms with a down-to-earth melody, creating a song that is light and easy to listen to. More than anything, ZELO hopes listeners will make the song their own.
“I hope everyone who listens to ‘ELA’ can think of their own ‘ELA.’ For some, it may be a person; for others, it could be an unforgettable memory or an emotion they still carry. I hope this song naturally becomes part of each listener’s own story, offering a sense of connection, comfort and understanding.”
With “ELA”, ZELO explores a slightly different musical direction while staying true to the emotional style that has always been part of his music. Although the song moves away from the typical K-pop sound, it feels like a natural step in his growth as a solo artist and shows he’s not afraid to try something new.
