SAAY, a Korean R&B singer-songwriter, began her career in 2012 as the leader of the girl group EvoL. After the group’s disbandment in 2015, she transitioned to a solo career under Universal Music Korea, embracing greater artistic freedom. Her music, which blends R&B, hip-hop, and soul, is often likened to Western artists because of its polished melodies, her stunning vocal harmonies, and unfeigned lyrics.
Since her solo debut in 2017, SAAY has released numerous albums and singles and has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg and Crush. Her work has earned her recognition from publications like Hypebae and Vogue, who praise her for breaking stereotypes and expanding the global appeal of Korean music.
Beyond her music, SAAY is a composer and producer for other artists, including TWICE, Aespa, Baekhyun of EXO, and THE BOYZ.
SAAY has just released a digital single, DOMINO, which is fully in English and aims, one could say, at a Western audience. With over a decade in the industry, the singer is known for her hands-on approach to music, actively involved in songwriting, production, choreography, and performance direction.
DOMINO, written and co-composed by SAAY, is her first release in seven months since RollerCoaster. The music video features the energetic dance crew WE DEM BOYZ and dancer IBAN, both famous for their performances on the Korean dance shows Street Man Fighter and Street Woman Fighter. The song depicts SAAY’s complex emotions accumulated over her career, grasping the tension between the pursuit of success and the fear of failure. DOMINO metaphorically illustrates how a single misstep can cause everything to fall apart, much like a row of dominos.
“I wanted to express our feelings of insecurity and imperfection. I had to do it for me and for us.” SAAY
With such a powerful comeback, SAAY continues to make significant strides in the music industry, and DOMINO is yet another proof of her evolving artistry and international reach.
