Music Bank is a premier South Korean music program, and since its debut in 1998, it has become one of the most popular and influential music shows in the country, it is also broadcast in over a hundred countries via KBS World, making it accessible to a global audience. Interestingly, Music Bank replaced a previous music show, Top 10 Songs, which aired from 1981 to 1998.
After a brief stint as Bravo New Generation, Music Bank debuted on June 18, 1998. Initially, the show used a request format, but in 2008, it introduced the K-Chart, a countdown chart that combines digital music charts, album sales, KBS broadcasts, K-pop fan voting, and social media charts. The show has undergone various time slot changes and format adjustments over the years. It started as a live show, switched to a recorded format in 2005, and returned to live broadcasts in 2007. In 2010, Music Bank began airing live internationally, reaching a global audience with interactive features for viewers.
In 2011, KBS began a new journey by organising the Music Bank World Tour, a global live concert series presenting South Korea’s most popular artists. The tour has brought live K-pop performances to audiences around the world, spanning cities across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, with an estimated global live audience of 200,000.
This year, the Music Bank World Tour will make a stop in Madrid, Spain. The concert will take place on October 12 at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid. The lineup for this event includes some of the hottest K-pop acts: Enhypen, Aespa, BoyNextDoor, Riize, Nmixx, Kiss of Life, MAMAMOO+, and P1Harmony.
