NEWS: RM of 21st-century pop icons BTS unveiled his solo documentary film RM: Right People, Wrong Place at its world premiere as a part of the ‘Open Cinema’ section of the 29th BUSAN International Film Festival (BIFF).
RM: Right People, Wrong Place chronicles the eight-month process leading up to his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, released in May 2024. Complemented by artfully candid visuals, the film offers an up-close and intimate glimpse into RM, as the leader of BTS, a solo artist, as well as the person Kim Namjoon (RM’s given name). Capturing the creative powerhouse’s journey in creating an album that reflects his sensibility, aesthetics, and beliefs, RM: Right People, Wrong Place—which BIFF described as “Both a film about the making of RM’s album and a very special record of a unique youth” – is the first film focused on a K-pop artist to be officially selected for the ‘Open Cinema’ section at Asia’s largest film festival.
Despite the heavy rain, the audience at the outdoor screening held on October 7 (KST) was filled with viewers from all over the world who came to experience the film on the big screen. Before the screening began, director Lee Seokjun, co-director Im Subin, and music director JNKYRD, along with San Yawn and Jang Sehoon, who contributed to the production of RM’s second solo album, took the stage to greet the audience.
Fans came out to support their idol with tickets for the screening selling out in less than three minutes, however, RM later posted on his Instagram that the film will be distributed across 3,000 cinemas worldwide in December. More information about the project can be found here.
